Paper Chandelier

This past week has been very hectic & emotional for my family. Needless to say I have not been very creative in that time. But the "feeling" hit me Saturday morning. I have seen many different lanterns that have been made out of coffee filters, but I decided to do mine just a bit different. I already had the paper lantern, and I drink coffee like no body's business, so the main materials were taken care of. I also find a pendent light electrical kit that we had used in my son's room in our old house. The pendant had a hood to cover the light bulb so I felt A LOT better about having a hot light bulb in a paper cocoon So from there I went to work!

First I gathered my materials and then went to work on my coffee filters. I simply lightly folded them in half and then folded them again to make a small blossom. I pinched the ends and then moved on to over 250 filters! My lantern was really large, but I knew it would look great in our master bedroom.

After I had most of my filters, I just couldn't wait any longer and got to work gluing the pinched ends to the lantern. I started from the top and then moved my way around and down. I propped the lantern up in a bowl to keep it sturdy while I worked.

So the snow fell outside (this is mid April mind you) and I glued and glued and glued and glued...well you get the idea. It was peaceful and relaxing. Then I needed my husband to hold the lantern for me as it was really getting difficult to get into the nooks and crannies.

Next we wired it to our existing light socket. Really easy to do when you have a husband or partner to help you out. I decided to pretty it up even more and added a ceiling medallion that we also already had. Am I sounding like a pack rat yet???

Lastly, we sat back and admired the view! So much better then the previous, builders space ship light.

just one more picture of pretty
When the chandelier is on, it sort of casts a beautiful candlelight glow.

We are really happy with this project. The chandelier looks like a million bucks, but really it cost me next to nothing!

Have a great day of creating!

    1. Thank you for your question Deidra. The chandelier started as a 12 inch paper lantern that I purchased from Ikea.
